CHRISTINA ERIKA FORSGREN 26 Apr. 1820-21 Feb. 1906

Alice Mariah Forsgren Eliason Hatch - Christina Erika's grand niece - said of Erika: "Aunt Reeky we called her. She became Grandpa Davis' second wife. She was the kindest, sweetest old lady in the world." And so this portrait of her seems to testify. I regret that I neither have, no know of, any other existing photo of her. We know very little detail of her life, but such as I know I will post to this blog, hoping that other descendants will be able to contribute information and impressions that I don't currently have in the Forsgren Family Association archives.

Please be patient as I continue to add information to this blog. The blogs for her brothers John Erik and Peter Adolph have so far consumed more of my time. John Erik was more colorful; Peter Adolph was more prolific....and I have not had as much dialogue with Erika's descendants.... but that said, please enjoy what is available now and feel free to contact me and contribute!

CHILDREN OF ERIKA & WILLIAM DAVIS - #3 - Oliver Frederick Davis

OLIVER FREDERICK DAVIS, born 2 Jan 1858, Brigham City, Utah.  Died 24 August 1929, Brigham City;  Buried 28 August 1929 in the Brigham City Cemetery.
Married Susannah Pulsipher 17 Sept 1884, Logan LDS Temple
Parents of 6 children, 4 of whom grew to adulthood

BIOGRAPHY: "Sketch of a Utah Pioneer" Oliver F. Davis (copy in possession of Forsgren Family Association. There is no author or date listed. Original spelling and punctuation retained).
"His father (William Davis) was born Sept. 12, 1795, in Union Township Pennsylvania. He came to America soon after the Pilgrims, joined the church in Dec. 1832, and was the first Bishop of Brigham City.
As a boy Oliver helped his father take care of the farm and city lots, also herded sheep and cattle east and west of Brigham. On May 10, 1869, they drove the last spike for the S.R. Railroad out to the Promatory Point. He not only worked on the railroads and hawled railroad ties, but drove oxen and horses in the canyons hauling logs and lumber. He spent two years in Beaver Canyon, Idaho working at the saw mills for Roskelly, Rigby and Vass Noy. 1881-1882.
Nov. 22, 1883, his father died in Brigham and his mother was cared for by him until Sept. 17, 1884. He married Susannah Pulsipher in the Logan Temple and she did all she could to care for her until Feb. 21, 1906 when shse passed away.
There were three boys and three girls in their family but two boys died when small. The children are as follows:
Elfy A. Davis, born August 9, 1885
May E. Davis, born Dec. 8, 1887.
Asa Oliver Davis, born Mar. 29, 1890
Jesse Pulsipher Davis, born June 28, 1892
Zina Pulsipher Davis, born Dec. 18, 1894
Zera P. Davis, born Mar. 15, 1899
In 1885 he went into Star Valley Wyoming, built a two-roomed log house, planted some alfalfa, and made roads to the canyon. The winters were so long and severe he sold out, and bought a ranch at Paradise, (later called Avon). He lived there for about fifteen years, where the famiy were active workers in all the organizations.
Oliver not only worked in the Sunday School and M.I.A. but also as ward clerk and Justice of the Peace.
His wife was President of the Relief Society and was also a trained nurse and help for the sick. She was a mother to all and carried sunshine where ever she went.
Oliver and family returned to Brigham in the spring of 1905 and worked fifteen years for the Continental Oil Company. He was a High Priest at the time of his death, August 24, 1929."

Oliver Frederick's mother seemed to be of a visionary bent.  Perhaps Oliver acquired some of that ability from her as evidenced by the following quote taken from her biographical sketch:
"A remarkable co-incident, apropos of the death of Apostle C. C. Rich, Oliver F. Davis, son of the subject of this sketch, relates the following remarkable dream. "On the 17th of November, 1918, being the 35th anniversary of the death of Apostle Rich, I had a plain vision which impressed me very much. I dreamed I saw Brigham Young and Joseph Smith in an assembly held in the upstairs room of the old Court House. They were given a great welcome. I also saw Mother, cheerful and dressed up to date, and not old fashioned."

Zina and Heber Hunsaker were the parents of four children;  Two died in infancy.

#1 - Norma Hunsaker, born 20 March 1917, Honeyville, Utah;  Died 8 Mar 1995, Honeyville.  She married James Ferris Reeder 24 Oct 1935 in Salt Lake City .  They were the parents of 6 children:  Lynn James, Hal, Gail, Irene, Ivan and Ronda.  Like her mother, she bore a set of twins.

Norma in her class picture - son Hal believes her to be the girl on the left end of the 4th row back.

James Ferris Reeder was born 21 Dec 1905 in Brigham City;  Died 26 April 1998.  He served in WWII as a lieutenant in the Army Air Force

Photo in possession of Hal Reeder, son

Hal Reeder with second wife Janet.  Hal has been generous with contributions to his family website, findagrave.com and with me personally as we have discussed genealogy and Brigham City history.  An interesting note is that Hal and I are "related" twice over.  He is a cousin thru our mutual Forsgren ancestry and Hal's first wife, Deon Rasmussen (who passed away in April, 2001) is a cousin to my husband.  Hal has lived his life in Brigham City, and, like me, feels he is related to half the people in the Brigham City Cemetery!!

#2 Marie Hunsaker, born abt. 1928, I assume in Honeyville.  Marie is listed in the 1930 census with her parents as age 1 1/2 so approximate year of birth is 1928.  Marie married Arnold Johnson.  Both are still living in Brigham City.  They had two daughters, Brenda <living> and Ranae who is deceased.  I have no further information yet on this family.  I only recently learned that Marie is still living.

#3 LaRease (shown on some records as LaReese) Hunsaker, born 23 October 1933 in Tremonton.  (Some records state Honeyville) She is a twin.  Sadly she did not live to see her second birthday.  She died 20 April 1935 of whooping cough and pneumonia (according to Hal Reeder) and is buried in the Honeyville Cemetery  HC-1-8-A-2.  Her birth was a difficult one and her death devastating to Zina.

I am indebted to Hal Reeder for this wonderful photo of the twins, taken not long before LeRease died.

#4 - LaRee Hunsker, twin, born 23 Oct. 1922 in Tremonton(some records indicate she was born in Honeyville. LaRee is shown in the photo above with her twin sister.  LaRee married Jerry Rex Snow.  They have a least one child, Cyntha Tarza Snow born 7 Mar 1958 in Monrovia, Los Angeles, California who died 1 Feb 2004.  Cynthia married Phillip John Taylor in La Puente California 16 April 1977.  He is also deceased  (born 13 Apr 1958, Los Angeles;  died 22 Nov 2007 in California).  Cyntha is buried in the Brigham City Cemetery.  I have no location for her grave.  She is not listed on findagrave.com and I have not yet searched and photographed her headstone.

Child #6 - Zera Pulsipher Davis, born 15 March 1899, Avon,Cache Co., Utah;  died 2 Feb 1946; buried Brigham City Cemetery B-36-12-5;  married Rachel Miller <assumed living>.  I have no information that there were children born to this marriage.  I have very little information about Zera and his life.  No photos.   The following information taken from sources on Ancestry.com:
